If you tuned into this year's Academy Awards, you saw the absolutely iconic number put on by Ryan Gosling as he performed "I'm Just Ken" with dozens of dancers, a few special guests and a whole lot of Kenergy. While the performance ending up stealing the show, it nearly didn't happen as the Barbie star initially wasn't on board with commanding the Oscars stage.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show on Thursday (April 11), Gosling revealed to host Jimmy Fallon why he originally said no the idea, per Billboard. As Fallon asked about the pressure of the performance and whether "when the Oscars asked you to perform ... [did] you immediately go, 'Yeah, I have to do this!' Or no?"
According to Gosling, his immediate reaction was "100% no" because "there's a lot of ways that can go wrong."
Fortunately for the Nice Guys star — and for everyone watching at home — the Kenergetic performance seemingly went off without a hitch. Dressed in a sparkling, Barbie-pink suit and surrounded by more than 60 dancers, Gosling payed homage to another iconic blonde, drawing inspiration from Marilyn Monroe's song "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash even made a special appearance as Gosling belted out one of the biggest Best Song numbers ever performed at the Oscars.
